Patient information

What to expect.

Your first appointment

Bring your claim number if available, employer or insurer correspondence, reports, imaging, medicine details and information about your usual duties. A longer appointment may be appropriate.

Certificates and reports

Certificates and reports must reflect the doctor’s clinical assessment. Additional time and fees may apply for forms, reports or document review outside a consultation.

Billing responsibilities

Direct billing depends on claim status and insurer arrangements. You may need to pay on the day where approval or claim information is unavailable. Confirm requirements with reception before attending.
Prepare for your visit

What to bring.

Having the right information available can reduce delays and help your doctor understand the request.

  • Claim number and insurer details
  • Employer contact and position description
  • Reports, imaging and hospital paperwork
  • Current capacity certificate, if applicable
Common questions

Frequently asked questions.

Can I attend before receiving a claim number?

Yes, but you may need to pay the account and seek reimbursement later. Ask reception about current arrangements.

Will the doctor certify time away from work?

Capacity is determined through clinical assessment. A certificate is not automatic and may recommend modified duties rather than complete absence.

Can the GP coordinate referrals?

Yes, clinically appropriate referrals may form part of your treatment and recovery plan. Insurer approval may be needed.
Appointments and fees

Book the appropriate appointment.

Appointment length, Medicare eligibility and private fees vary by service. Reception can confirm what to select and what documentation is needed.

Check fees before your visit
