Recommended schedule
The clinic follows the Australian National Immunisation Program schedule and current clinical guidance so eligible children receive age-appropriate vaccines at recommended times.
Before the appointment
Bring your child’s vaccination history and advise the clinician about allergies, previous vaccine reactions, current illness, medicines and medical conditions. The team can check available records and identify whether a catch-up assessment is needed.
After vaccination
Your clinician explains common expected reactions, appropriate comfort measures and symptoms that need medical attention. Vaccinations are recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register where required.
Influenza vaccination.
Annual influenza vaccination is recommended for everyone aged six months and over. It can reduce the risk of influenza and serious complications.
NIP-funded vaccines
Free seasonal influenza vaccination is available under the National Immunisation Program for eligible groups. These include specified age groups, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, pregnant people and people with certain medical risk conditions.
Private vaccines
People who are recommended to receive influenza vaccination but are not eligible for a funded dose may be able to receive a privately purchased vaccine, subject to stock and clinical suitability.
Pregnancy
Influenza vaccination is recommended during every pregnancy and can be given at any stage. Discuss timing alongside other recommended pregnancy vaccines with your clinician.

International travel can involve exposure to infections that are uncommon in Australia. Start planning early because some vaccines require multiple doses or time to become effective.
Travel risk assessment
Your clinician considers destinations, transit countries, departure date, length and style of travel, planned activities, accommodation, previous vaccines, age, pregnancy and underlying health conditions.
Vaccines available or obtainable
Depending on availability and clinical need, travel vaccination may include yellow fever, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, tetanus, pertussis, polio, meningococcal disease and rabies. Other vaccines may be recommended for a particular itinerary.
Routine vaccines
Travel is also an opportunity to check routine vaccination status, including measles, mumps and rubella, influenza, COVID-19, tetanus and other vaccines relevant to age, occupation or medical risk.
Accredited travel vaccination and certification.
Yellow fever vaccination may be recommended for travel to risk areas and may be required for entry or transit by some countries.
Who may need it
Vaccination is generally considered for eligible travellers aged nine months and over visiting areas with a risk of yellow fever transmission, subject to individual assessment.
Certification
Only an authorised Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre can provide yellow fever vaccination and the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis.
Plan early
The certificate generally becomes valid 10 days after the first vaccination. Check entry and transit requirements for every country on your itinerary.
Suitability
Age, pregnancy, immune conditions, allergies and previous vaccine reactions can affect suitability. A clinician must balance travel risk against vaccination risk.

COVID-19 vaccination recommendations, funded eligibility, dose intervals and available products can change. Your clinician can review your age, medical risk, previous vaccination and recent infection before advising whether another dose is recommended.

Provide details of previous COVID-19 doses, recent infection, allergies and any significant previous vaccine reaction.

What to bring
Bring Medicare details if applicable, vaccination records, travel itinerary for travel vaccines and information about allergies, medicines and medical conditions.
Tell your clinician
Advise the team if you are unwell, pregnant, immunocompromised, have had a severe allergic reaction or experienced a significant reaction to a previous vaccine.
Observation
You may be asked to remain at the clinic for a short observation period after vaccination. Follow the aftercare information provided.
Urgent reactions
Severe allergic reactions are rare. Call 000 for breathing difficulty, swelling of the mouth or throat, collapse or another life-threatening reaction.
